X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer

(From Daily Mail) It is a film which excitingly unites the star-studded cast of the original X-Men franchise with the younger stars of the rebooted 2011 prequel First Class.

And judging by the first official trailer for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, both sets of mutants are in fighting form.

Halle Berry last starred as the weather-manipulating mutant Storm in 2006 movie X-Men: Last Stand, but the actress looks equally youthful as she reprises her role in spectacular style.

The 47-year-old actress shows off white hair and leather apparel in the movie which she filmed while pregnant with her son Maceo.

The two minute, 17 second trailer shows her summoning lightening gazing fearfully at looming storm clouds overhead.

Jennifer Lawrence, as shape-shifting Mystique, again dons her blue scaly body suit and make-up  while demonstrating some impressive action moves in a dramatic fight scene.

Halle joins Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Ellen Page’s Kitty Pryde and Anna Paquin’s Rogue as returning cast members from the original three-film franchise.

Fan favourite Logan, aka Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, also takes on a pivotal role in the film when the mutants are faced with a threat to their species.

Wolverine is asked by the older Professor X (Stewart) to return to the past to persuade his younger self (James McAvoy) to change the past and therefore save the mutants of the future.

This means teaming up with his old friend and enemy Magneto (McKellen) whose younger self is again played by Michael Fassbender.

‘You’re going to have to do for me what I once did for you,’ he tells Wolverine as a picture flickers up of McAvoy in the X-Mansion.

‘You’ll need me as well,’ says McKellen’s Magneto. ‘Side by side to end this war before it ever begins. It’s going to take the two of us.’

‘So…I wake up in my younger body and then what?’ asks Wolverine whose immortality makes him the perfect character for a spot of time jumping.

‘Find me. Convince me all this,’ replies Xavier as McAvoy is shown with a lit up X on his head.

‘Where do I find you?’ Wolverine asks Magneto.

‘A different path,’ he replies, amid a flashback to Fassbender pointing a gun. ‘A darker path.’

‘I was a very different man,’ Stewart’s character admits. ‘Lead me. Guide me. Be patient with me.’

‘Patience isn’t my strongest suit,’ admits Wolverine, before a shot flashes up of his character screaming.

A threat is posed by military scientist Bolivar Tras whose company has created a range of robots called Sentinels whose purpose is to hunt and destroy mutants.

Cue a slew of dramatic events including a man running through a burning building, panicking and protesting crowds of people, a line of men firing guns, and officials in the Oval Office lifting up a mysterious circular trap door with a beam of light inside.

The younger Professor doesn’t appear to be too open to persuasion. At one point he shouts: ‘I don’t want your suffering I don’t want your future.’

Other scenes include the young Magneto summoning a terrified looking Mystique towards him in broad daylight, Magneto screaming under water and McAvoy shattering a glass ceiling using his mind.

‘Please, we need you to hope again,’ Stewart tells McAvoy in a poignant glimpse showing the two Xaviers coming face to face.

The film, again directed by Bryan Singer, is slated for release in the U.S. next May and was filmed in Montreal, Canada last year.
