As part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics opening ceremony, an artificial meteor shower will be created.
A micro-satellite containing 1000 pellets of gas will be launched into space and release the pellets. Different gases will lead to the production of different hues of colour.
While the effect created sounds impressive, it doesn’t come cheap, with each ‘meteor’ set to cost $US 8100.
Startup company Star-Ale are behind the daring plan, and expect the ‘shower’ to stretch across over 200 kilometres of sky.
