Martin Scorsese breaks the ‘Silence’ with trailer for new historical drama

(From Movie Pilot) Three years since Martin Scorsese teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio on his last project The Wolf of Wall Street, the director is finally going full-steam ahead with his next epic contribution to cinema, historical drama Silence.

And after months of teasing us with a handful of movie stills and tantalizing snippets of information, the trailer for one of the most noteworthy movies of the year is finally here.

Based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1966 novel, Silence will cover ground never before touched by the Hollywood director and concerns itself with the story of two 17th century Jesuit priests who are plagued with persecution as they journey through Japan (where Catholicism has been banned) to spread Christianity.

Starring Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver in the leading roles, the feature will also see Liam Neeson in the spotlight as the mentor they are trying to locate.

The movie, which has been in production hell since 1990, is set to be an explosive addition to Scorsese’s list of cinematic achievements and will undoubtedly cast Garfield and Driver firmly into the Oscar-contender spotlight.

Silence will hit cinemas in limited release on December 23 and be available nationwide in January, 2017.
