John Turturro is directing a Big Lebowski spin-off


(From Vanity Fair) John Turturro’s latest project, a film he wrote and will direct titled Going Places, is actually a Big Lebowski spin-off, according to reports. Inspired by the 1974 French film Les Valseuses, Going Places will revisit Turturro’s original character Jesus Quintana from the 1998 Coen brothers classic.

Even more titillating is the fact that he’s already started shooting it, Variety confirmed. The project, which surprisingly isn’t called Secret Big Lebowski Spin-Off Shhh, also stars Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, Susan Sarandon, and Sonia Braga.

Les Valseuses is a dramedy that originally starred Gérard Depardieu and Patrick Dewaere as a pair of petty criminals loping around France and causing mayhem. It was received well critically, but Roger Ebert’s scathing review is worth a read. Trouble suits Turturro’s Quintana, who was a perverse, competitive bowler.
