(From The Sun) Sherlock fans are convinced the evil Moriarty will return in season four after new pictures show his signature yellow graffiti sprayed on the investigator’s wall.
The highly anticipated series will return to the small screen on New Year’s Day, exactly a year after Sherlock solved his last mystery.
In the new teaser pictures, Sherlock – played by Benedict Cumberbatch – has his eyes closed with his head tilted towards the floor while Dr Watson (Martin Freeman) stares at him from the opposite chair.
Books, sheet music and a violin can be seen floating on the floor on the Baker Street apartment.
Hinting Moriarty, played by Andrew Scott, has returned, his happy face yellow graffiti can be seen sprayed on a mirror above the fireplace.
Despite shooting himself in the face in season 2, Moriarty managed to broadcast himself onto TV screens all across the UK in the 2016 special called The Abominable Bride.
During the special Sherlock returned from his banishment to figure out Moriarty’s return and ended up solving an old case about people coming back from the dead.
It could be a coincidence but it had yet to be revealed how Moriarty managed to get himself on TV and if he filmed it before he shot himself or whether he somehow faked his death and has returned.
However, Sherlock creators have hinted we won’t be seeing much of Moriarty in the new series.
Steven Moffatt told Radio Times: “I don’t want [Sherlock] to turn into a show that’s about one villain and one hero. Moriarty was great because he was a surprise. Every time you bring him back he won’t be as big a surprise.”
