First trailer of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

the hobbit: the desolation of smaug

(From Geeks of Doom) After the release of the first official look at Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) last week, and the film’s first poster this past weekend, the first offical trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has finally debuted.

The film follows Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and his band of fearless dwarves, and Gandalf the Grey, who are on a quest to obtain gold that was stolen from them from a great dragon called Smaug. Not only do we get our first look at Smaug, Tauriel, Beron the Bear, and Bard, but we also get to see the return of Legolas (Orlando Bloom).

There is a lot to take in, especially from something that calls itself a teaser trailer. Director Peter Jackson spared no expense expanding this world, thanks in part to WB’s decision to make The Hobbit into a trilogy. This new trailer seems to suggest that The Desolation Of Smaug will have more action and thrills than An Unexpected Journey had.

We’ll have to see if the decision to turn this into a trilogy pays off in the end. Judging by how this new trailer looks, it looks like it does, in spades. But with The Hobbit being one book, and the films being a trilogy, where do you think this second film will end?

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan, Richard Armitage, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, and many more. WB will release the film into theaters on December 13, with the final installment, There And Back Again, hitting theaters around the same time next year.
