‘Evolve’ trailer & gameplay

(From Geeks of Doom) Multiplayer and co-op gaming is just as popular as ever, and so game makers must figure out fresh and exciting new ways to build on that popularity.

One such game that seeks to deliver that unique experience and is getting a lot of buzz is titled Evolve. Various video game reporters were able to get their hands on the game recently, and some very intriguing information is coming out. Basically, the game is designed as a five-person cooperative multiplayer experience where players try to hunt and kill a vicious monster. The catch? Only four of you or your friends will be hunting the monster…the 5th player is the monster.

Evolve comes from Turtle Rock Studios, the developer behind Left 4 Dead, and 2K Games. It’s a mixture of first-person and third-person gameplay, the former if you’re one of the hunters and the latter if you’re the monster. But you won’t just be running around a map shooting at the monster wildly. Strategy is a key element to this game.

Each of the four hunter players will have to choose from a class, and none can choose the same class. Each one of the four will have their own abilities, as well as jobs they’ll be required to do for the benefit of the team using said abilities. Working together and using the various skills as a cohesive unit will be paramount to successfully hunting the monster. Fail to do so… and you’re likely going to become a quick meal.

The objective of the game is simple: kill the monster. Do that, and you win. If you’re the monster, you either take out the hunters or evolve a couple of times and complete a certain objective, such as getting past some defenses to some scientists and taking them out.

Evolve will be released on PC Physical, PC Download, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 later this year in the fall, and will feature multiple maps and monsters.
