Antonio Banderas sci-fi ‘Automata’ gets a trailer

automata

(From Geeks of Doom) A trailer and a pair of posters have been released for Automata, an upcoming sci-fi flick starring Antonio Banderas.

The movie is set in the year 2044, at a time when the robots we’ve created have evolved past set protocols—never harm any life form, never alter itself or others—to a point where they’re at the same level of intelligence as humans, and a takeover as the dominant life form on the planet is unfolding.

It centers on an insurance agent accident investigator (Banderas) who finds himself caught in the middle of this conflict between human intelligence and artificial intelligence.

While the idea of robots rising up and taking out humans is nothing new, Automata looks pretty darn awesome, like Blade Runner fusing together with a Neill Blomkamp movie, and should appeal greatly to sci-fi fans.

Automata is directed by Gabe Ibáñez (Hierro), and also stars Dylan McDermott, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Robert Forster, and Melanie Griffith.

The movie hits theaters and video on demand services on October 10th.
